Rocket City Move (“we,” “us”) is an independent relocation guide run from Madison, Alabama. This policy explains what information the site collects, which outside services handle it, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible.
The short version
- You can read every page without creating an account or giving us any personal information.
- If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your email address (and your first name if you give it).
- We never sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share subscriber lists with advertisers.
- Some third-party services we use, listed below, may set cookies or collect technical data such as your IP address and browser type.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter signup. Our signup forms collect your email address and an optional first name.
- Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
- Advertisers. If you buy an ad, we receive the business contact details you provide at checkout and the logo, link and copy you send us for your ad.
Information collected automatically
- Hosting and security logs. Our hosting provider processes technical data such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Site statistics. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Cloudflare describes it as privacy-first: it does not use cookies or local storage and does not track you across sites.
- Affiliate tracking. We load a tracking script from Impact.com (impactcdn.com) on our pages. It records page views and clicks on partner links so that, if you buy something from a partner after clicking one of our links, the partner can credit us. This script may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser.
Third-party services we use
- Cloudflare (hosting, security and site statistics): Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit), which stores our newsletter list and sends the newsletter. When you subscribe, your information goes directly to Kit: Kit privacy policy.
- Stripe, which processes payments from advertisers through Stripe-hosted payment pages. We never see or store full card numbers: Stripe privacy policy.
- Impact.com (affiliate tracking script): Impact privacy policy.
- Affiliate partners and other linked sites. We may add affiliate links to products and services. When you click a link and leave our site, the other site's privacy policy applies, and it may use cookies to track the referral.
How we use information
- To send the newsletter and the Move Checklist you asked for.
- To reply to your emails, corrections and advertising questions.
- To run, secure and improve the site, for example by seeing which guides people read.
- To set up, bill and deliver advertising for businesses that buy it.
- To earn affiliate commissions, which requires partners to know a referral came from us.
- To comply with the law, such as keeping payment records for taxes.
How we share information
We share information only with the service providers listed above, which process it to run the site, the newsletter and payments, or when the law requires it. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share subscriber or reader information with advertisers or sponsors. If Rocket City Move is ever sold or transferred, the information may move to the new owner under this same policy.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime with the link at the bottom of every newsletter.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work. Blocking cookies may stop affiliate partners from crediting us, but it won't affect what you pay.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning a move. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
How long we keep information
We keep newsletter subscriber information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We keep advertiser and payment records as long as tax and accounting rules require. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, and we use established providers for email lists and payments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above. If we make a significant change to how we use subscriber information, we'll tell subscribers by email.
